A Taste of Greece

The Stories Behind Our Most Loved Dishes

At Urban Greek, we take pride in being one of the best restaurants Hobart has to offer, bringing authentic Greek flavours and traditions to your table. Every dish on our menu carries a story, deeply rooted in Greek culture and history.
If you’re exploring restaurants Hobart for a unique dining experience, let us take you on a journey through the flavours of Greece with three of our standout dishes: Gemista, Lamb Cutlets, and Galaktoboureko.

Gemista – A Homely Classic with a Timeless Appeal

Gemista, meaning “stuffed,” is a dish that has graced Greek tables for generations. Made with ripe tomatoes and peppers, filled with a savory mixture of rice, fresh herbs, and sometimes minced meat, this dish is a tribute to the Greek countryside.
For us at Urban Greek, Gemista represents more than just a meal; it’s a connection to family traditions. My yiayia’s garden was always brimming with fresh vegetables, and her Gemista was a masterpiece of simplicity and love. When you dine with us, you’re tasting a piece of that cherished memory.
This dish is a perfect example of why we are known as one of the best restaurants Hobart diners turn to for authentic and heartfelt meals.

Lamb Cutlets – A Chargrilled Celebration on Eggplant Purée

Lamb cutlets are a star of Greek cuisine, and at Urban Greek, we’ve elevated this classic by serving them on a bed of velvety eggplant purée. Eggplant, a staple of Greek cooking since ancient times, adds depth and richness to this already exquisite dish.
Our lamb cutlets are grilled to perfection, seasoned with oregano, lemon, and olive oil – flavours that celebrate the essence of Greece. The smoky, tender meat paired with the creamy purée is a combination that brings ancient traditions and modern elegance together on one plate.
Looking for restaurants Hobart that deliver both flavor and a story? Our lamb cutlets are a must-try for any Greek food enthusiast.

Galaktoboureko – A Sweet Slice of Greek Tradition

When it comes to desserts, Galaktoboureko is a true masterpiece of Greek cuisine. This indulgent dish features crisp filo pastry layered over a creamy, citrus-infused custard, finished with a drizzle of fragrant honey syrup.

Often served during celebrations, Galaktoboureko symbolises the joy of gathering with loved ones. At Urban Greek, we’ve crafted our recipe to perfection, making it one of the standout desserts in restaurants Hobart. It’s the perfect way to end your meal on a sweet and memorable note.
